ICYMI: New court ruling shows State’s Attorney Kim Foxx’s dedication to restoring integrity to criminal justice system
CHICAGO - As the holiday season approaches State Attorney Kim Foxx continues work to restore faith in the criminal justice system while also putting to rest falsehoods from reform efforts.
Ruling in Officer Houser Case
A court ruling this week highlighted State Attorney Kim Foxx’s continued commitment to restoring integrity to the criminal justice system using facts and evidence to drive decisions. On Friday, a Cook County judge found Chicago Police Officer Lowell Houser guilty of second-degree murder in the 2017 shooting of Jose Nieves. Foxx released the following statement:
“We are pleased with today’s ruling, as the deliberate actions of Officer Houser demanded justice and accountability. While this incident occurred within weeks of this administration taking office, after a careful review, we took swift action to ensure that the appropriate charges were filed for this crime.”
Impeachment
State Attorney Kim Foxx joined the rest of the nation earlier this week in watching the U.S. House of Representatives vote to impeach the president. She watched the results keeping in mind the president’s most recent visit to Chicago. She released the following statement:
“Mr. Trump has used this city and this county as a punching bag to distract from his own criminality. So it is with great irony that tonight he stands accused of high crimes and misdemeanors.
“The nation looks to the president to unite us with the utmost integrity. Mr. Trump has continuously failed us in this regard. He refuses to consider his own rap sheet before attacking communities like Chicago that truly reflect the diversity and values of this country. Mr. Trump has undermined our national security, betrayed our constitution, and now the people’s house has spoken.
“I will continue to defend and represent the countless communities that Mr. Trump has insulted, undermined, and broken his oath of office.”
Retail Theft Policy
Also this week, critics falsely argue Foxx’s retail theft policy keeps suspects from facing any consequences. Shoplifters will still be prosecuted, the difference is whether they face a misdemeanor or felony charge.
“First and foremost we’re focusing on violent crime in our communities. And we’re able to shift some resources to our gun-crime strategies unit to address violence in our neighborhoods. Safety is the best sales pitch for people who want to bring their business to Chicago.”
The State’s Attorney was also featured in an ABC 7 Report and shared her perspective on WVON radio with Perri Small.
