Chicago Teachers Union endorses, CPS alumna, Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx

Chicago - The Chicago Teachers Union, representing more than 25,000 educational employees and by extension nearly 400,000 students and families, endorsed Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx for re-election. CTU leadership and community members rallied around State’s Attorney Foxx at a press conference Wednesday for the announcement.

“For many students across Cook County their schools have become a home outside of home, a safe haven from the community violence,” said State’s Attorney Kim Foxx. “Teachers are at the frontlines of defense - nurturing kids and providing an outlet for those impacted by the criminal justice system. I’m thankful for the support from Chicago’s Teachers Union. I know together we will secure the future of Cook County’s children and deliver safer communities.”

Since her first campaign, State’s Attorney Foxx has worked tirelessly with CTU to include their voices in creating a more equitable justice system. When students carry the burden of having an incarcerated parent, it is teachers who commit to nurturing them. When students are criminalized for their behavior and led from the schoolhouse to the penitentiary, it is teachers who advocate on their behalf. This endorsement is a testament to State’s Attorney Foxx’s commitment to support teachers as they work to build Cook County’s next generation.
